Ned (Nunzio) Gaetano, 82, of Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away, in Hospice, on April 12, 2024 with his son, David by his side in Scotch Plains, NJ. He was born on July 12, 1941, in Rome, NY. Ned was a beloved resident of South Windsor, CT for over 44 years. His hard work ethic, enduring love of his wife and son, and passion for having the cleanest car in the neighborhood were some of his signature traits. Ned loved working on his yard, tending to his tomatoes and freezing a year's worth of sauce and meatballs every fall from his bounty. He was a dedicated and loving husband to his recently deceased wife, remaining at her side until her passing. Ned met Donna while stationed in Berlin, Germany and soon was engaged when they both settled down in the states. In his professional life, Ned stocked produce, worked in a rug mill, did the late shift at Pratt and Whitney before settling on his career for life - interstate trucking. It was here he soon attained his goal of owning his own business, which eventually grew to two terminals and over 25 tractor trailers when he retired in 2001. His partner, Vincent Sica, was like a brother to him, calling him until his last days. Ned and Donna knew how to have fun; whether at numerous local restaurants on Fridays, or at Mohegan Sun, where they were fixtures until retiring to Florida. Ned had a love for his German Shepherds and cats, and was an avid sports Fan. He was a season ticket holder for the entire Hartford Whalers existence, where he spent many of cherished nights with his son. How he loved watching the Yankees, NY Giants and Syracuse Basketball, right until his final moments. Ned will be deeply missed by his loved ones and the community he was a part of. Besides his son, Dave, he leaves behind a sister, Anne Marie, brother, Angelo, daughter-in-law, Jamie and grandchildren Lucas, Olivia and Ella in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. A private service will be held for the family, with a memorial service to be planned at a later date. The family thanks Center for Hope for making his last days peaceful and pain free.
